The Lady Dragons swept Plano West, 3-0, in the regional semifinals last week. Tonight, they face Flower Mound with a trip to the state tournament awaiting the winner.
The Carroll Lady Dragons are one win away from a trip to the state volleyball tournament — and standing in their way is a familiar foe.
Carroll (32-5) will take on Flower Mound (36-8) tonight in the Class 6A Division II Region I final, with first serve set for 6 p.m. at the W.G. Thomas Coliseum. The winner will advance to the UIL State Tournament in Garland, with the semifinals beginning on Friday, Nov. 15.
The two powerhouse programs have met once already this season, squaring off back in August before district play began. The Lady Dragons came out on top that night, edging the Lady Jaguars in a tight three-set match, 2-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-16).
Since then, both teams have built impressive résumés, but Carroll enters Tuesday’s rematch riding a dominant postseason streak. The Lady Dragons have yet to drop a set during the playoffs, sweeping every opponent en route to the regional championship. Their most recent win came in commanding fashion, a 3-0 sweep of Plano West in the regional semifinal.
In fact, Carroll hasn’t lost a single set since October 17, when Justin Northwest managed to take two in a regular-season match. Since then, the Lady Dragons have found another gear, blending powerful hitting, crisp defense and consistent serving to overpower opponents across the bracket.
Flower Mound, meanwhile, brings experience and depth to the court. The Lady Jaguars have battled through one of the toughest regions in Texas to reach this point, setting up what promises to be another intense showdown between two of the state’s top 6A programs.
With a trip to Garland on the line, both teams will be looking to punch their ticket to the state semifinals — and for Carroll, it’s another opportunity to prove they belong among Texas volleyball’s elite.
