A piece of Carroll football history has found new life at the current home of the Dragons.
Thanks to the dedication of alumni and supporters, the original state championship sign that once stood at the old stadium on Carroll Avenue has been faithfully recreated and now proudly sits in front of the new Dragon Stadium. The original sign had weathered beyond repair, but through the craftsmanship of sign-maker Curtis Pinson (Class of ’93) and the teamwork of a Dragon Alumni group led by alumni Tim Watkins, an exact replica was produced.
With full support from the Carroll ISD school board and head football coach and athletic director Riley Dodge, alumni volunteers handled everything from concrete pouring to electrical setup, Watkins said, ensuring the new display would honor Carroll’s storied legacy. The Carroll Alumni Association organized a fundraising campaign with a goal of $20,000, ultimately raising around $1,700 to help cover materials and construction expenses.
Now standing tall once again, the sign serves as a proud link between past and present. Landscaping and lighting are still to come, and an update to the sign’s lower section is planned for December—another shining tribute to Dragon pride.
