In another lopsided victory of district rival Eaton, 66-7 on Thursday, Carroll head coach Riley Dodge notched his 100th career win — a moment that felt like destiny fulfilled for the former All-American quarterback who once wore the same green and black as the team he now leads.
The milestone places Dodge, 36, in rare company. He’s now the second-fastest coach in Texas high school football history to reach 100 wins, doing so in just eight years and seven weeks. Only Katy’s Gary Joseph got there faster. In comparison, because there always will be, it took his legendary father Todd Dodge 12 seasons to secure his 100th victory. A mark which the elder Dodge accomplished in the midst of his infamous 98-11 run at Dragon Stadium in Southlake.
Since taking the helm in 2018, Dodge has built an astonishing 100–9 record with five undefeated regular seasons, a 53–1 district record, six district championships, five state semifinal appearances and two trips to the state finals—including one "Dodge Bowl". The Dragons remain a fixture atop Texas high school football, entering the 2025 season as Dave Campbell’s Texas Football No. 1 team in Class 6A. A recent Massey report, which grades programs nationwide, ranked Carroll as the No. 4 team in the country.
Dodge's 100th victory is a testament to the powerhouse he's cultivated at Carroll, and the 2025 season is underscoring that legacy.
The Dragons have been steamrolling opponents with a perfect 7-0 record, outscoring teams by an average margin of 50 points per game. The team hit the ground running, squashing Midland in their season opener 49–0 and rolling since then – including a no-doubt-about-it 44-6 victory over rival Euless Trinity, which was state-ranked at the time.
Quarterback Angelo Renda, a Pitt commit, has been instrumental in the team's success, already totaling over 20 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Brock Boyd, an Ohio State pledge, has been a consistent threat in the passing game, contributing significantly to the team's high-scoring offense; he recently broke the all-time Carroll receiving yards record. And running back Brooks Biggers has added to the offensive firepower, proving more than capable of handling a starter's load while senior Davis Penn recovers from an injury.
On defense, the Dragons have been suffocating. Through seven games, the Dragons have 17.5 sacks, four interceptions, five fumble recoveries and 362 total tackles. More importantly, the unit has given up only 64 total points across seven games; for comparison, the Dragons scored 66 points on Thursday against Eaton.
Carroll is dominating games, and Dodge’s 100th victory is a fitting celebration of the powerhouse he’s built. From record-breaking individual performances to team-wide excellence on both sides of the ball, the Dragons are proving that under his leadership, Carroll football doesn’t just compete — it overwhelms. With their eyes set on avenging last year’s state championship loss, this team is firing on all cylinders, building momentum and focus as they set their sights on December 20 at AT&T Stadium — the date and site of this year's Class 6A title game.
