After placing either first or second in the U.S. Regional Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, six Southlake athletes headed to Sarasota, Florida to compete at the U.S. Rowing Youth National Regatta in early June.
Ashley Hall, Maile Nelson, Camille Eggers, Sophia Rhodes, Olivia Knight and Abby Evans all competed at the national competition. While Ashley — who competed in the U19 Double event — did not advance to the finals, the five other rowers did. Maile placed 10th in the U17 Single event and 12th in the U19 Quad event with Camille. Sophia and Olivia placed 18th in the U17 Double event while Abby placed 23rd in the U17 Single event.
“These women are a force to be reckoned with. We are all proud of their incredible accomplishments,” Abby’s dad Adam says. “Who knows what the future holds for these Dragons, but they certainly got off to a good start and we are excited to follow their races over the next few years.”
