The season came to a sudden and emotional close for the Carroll Lady Dragons on Sunday after a 1-0 loss to Forney in the Class 6A Division II state semifinals.
In windy, rain-soaked conditions, both teams battled through a physical, tightly contested game where scoring chances were limited and every possession mattered. Forney delivered the decisive tally in the second half, when Kalani Brundage scored what would be the lone goal off an assist from Addison Staats.

Carroll, the No. 1-ranked team entering the match, struggled to find its offensive rhythm early as Forney controlled much of the first half and limited attacking opportunities.
The Lady Dragons pushed back in the second half, increasing pressure and creating chances, but were unable to break through against goalkeeper Cinnamon Hurst, who preserved the shutout.
The loss ends an exceptional season for Carroll, which finished 26-1-1 and entered the semifinal having allowed just six goals all year.
Forney advances to its first-ever state championship appearance, while the Lady Dragons close another standout season as one of Texas’ top programs.
