On Homecoming night, the Southlake Carroll Dragons rolled over the Byron Nelson Bobcats, defeating them 68-7 and advancing to 5-0 in the season.
With a spectacular offensive outing, junior quarterback Kaden Anderson completed 75% of his passes, throwing for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Landon Samson was on the receiving end of all three of those scoring passes during the night, just part of his nine-catch, 139-yard performance.
But the true star of the night was the ground game. Junior running back Owen Allen — our Dragon Pride Player Of The Week, presented by AC Pros — was responsible for four of the Dragons’ 10 touchdowns and rushed for 146 yards. The total brings Allen to 822 yards on the season and 4,151 career yards, just 644 yards from breaking Tre Newton’s career rushing record of 4,794.
Backing up Allen, sophomore quarterback Caden Jackson and sophomore running backs James Lehman and Maddux Reid also each rushed in a touchdown.
While the Dragon offense racked up the score, the Dragon defense kept the Bobcats to just seven points on the night. The defense wreaked havoc thanks to four interceptions by senior defensive back Avyonne Jones, junior defensive back Logan Anderson, sophomore linebacker Aaron Scherp and senior linebacker Sloan Miller.
Anderson also tied with senior defensive back Josh Spaeth for the most tackles on the night with six each.
Following the takedown of Byron Nelson, Southlake Carroll faces another familiar opponent in Keller at 7 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the KISD Athletics Complex. The Dragons previously defeated the Indians 42-10 last year and 56-14 in 2019.
