With only one senior on this season's roster, Carroll has tobrbe excited about all it has been able to accomplish in 2016. With a roster comprisedbrof mostly freshman and sophomores, the Lady Dragons have been able to surprisebrthe field with great young talent. Led by the sophomore trio of Malak Boradea,brEmily Martin and Emily Zhou, the Dragons have had a rather successful 2015-16brseason. Malak Boradea enjoyed the team's highest finish in the Class 6A regionbr1 tournament—her score of 149 (+7) was good enough for a second-place tie onbrthe leaderboard. Boradea finished in second place again at the thebrInterscholastic at the Old Brickyard Golf Club and fourth at the districtbrtournament at Champions Circle Golf Club. Emily Martin earned an eighth placebrfinish in the region 1 tournament, while finishing eighth in the districtbrtournament as well. The last member of the trio, Emily Zhou, had an incrediblebrdistrict tournament. Shooting a 157 (+13), she finished just one point off thebrdistrict title. As the Dragons move closer to reaching their goals, the yearbronly gets more interesting. With a bright future ahead, all Dragon fans can dobris sit back and enjoy the show.
Season Update Girls Golf
Back to the state championship they go. After qualifying forbrthe state tournament last year, the Dragons Girls golf team built on theirbrmomentum and are headed back to claim what's theirs. Ranked 11th inbrthe state according to the UIL 6A rankings, Matt Glenn's Dragons have givenbrthemselves a shot at claiming a state title. The Dragons held on to a runner-upbrfinish in the Class 6A Region 1 tournament, beating out teams Arlington Martinbrand Hebron in the process. Prior to qualifying for the regional tournament,brSouthlake Carroll green team took second place in the 7-6A district tournament,brwhile the black team took home a fourth-place finish. “This is a committedbrgroup that works hard for each other,” says Head Coach Matt Glenn. “If we keepbrplaying like this, we can definitely compete in the state tournament.” With thebrstate tournament right around the corner, Southlake is looking to make its runbrat a ring.
