A new coach will lead Dragon Volleyball onto the court next season. Formerly an assistant coach at Southern Methodist University, Jason Tanaka has been hired as Dragon Volleyball's new head coach, according to a press release.
“This is a special opportunity for me to be at one of the best Texas high school volleyball programs," coach Tanaka says. "I’m extremely excited to be able to coach these young athletes."
During his time at SMU, coach Tanaka helped lead the team to their first-ever NCAA tournament. He also has coaching experience at Texas Christian University, the University of Pittsburgh and Baylor University.
“I would describe my coaching style as very technical,” coach Tanaka says. “I love to train, and I would like to think that I am a pretty mild-manner coach that can turn it up when needed to get my players to make adjustments.”
This past season, the girls volleyball team went 26-17, finishing third in District 4-6A.
“I’m very excited to lead this program,” coach Tanaka says. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
