“USA Today” has announced that Southlake Carroll swimmer Corbyn Cormack is the new Texas Girls Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year.
Every year, “USA Today” hosts the High Schools Sports Awards and recognizes 60,000 athletes in 24,000 schools across the nation. On Thursday, July 15, “USA Today” announced the Texas award winners across 12 sports — and Corbyn Cormack was declared the winner in the swimming and diving category.
“Corbyn Cormack capped off her illustrious career with a pair of gold medals in the Class 6A state swim meet. She defended her title in the 200 individual medley while also grabbing the gold in the 100 butterfly,” a “USA Today” spokesperson says. “Both wins set pool records.”
Corbyn wasn’t the only Dragon recognized in the High School Sports Awards. Diver Hailey Hernandez, who is set to compete in the Olympics later this week, was also named a swimming and diving finalist. While Corbyn ended up winning the award, both of these Dragons have helped raise the bar for the Carroll Swim and Dive program.
Corbyn will be formally recognized as the Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year during “USA Today’s” award ceremony on Thursday, August 5. To learn more about the Texas High School Sports Awards, visit SportsAwards.USAToday.com.
