Dominating at the regional tournament, Dragon Tennis doubles players Colin Scruggs and Daniel Weir are now headed to the state tournament.
Setting their sights on state, the pair will compete on May 20-21 in San Antonio.
“Coach White and I are ecstatic about Colin and Daniel qualifying,” says Corey Aldridge, the head coach of the tennis team. “The boys battled adversity and didn’t give up. A classic display of determination and fight!”
The determination the boys showed came after Daniel rolled his ankle pretty bad.
“He didn’t practice for four days before regionals. I’d estimate he was probably around 70-80% on Tuesday morning,” Corey says. “Playing through a black and blue foot and a ton of pain, he played great. He is one tough kid. Super proud of him and for Colin for stepping up.”
And though Colin and Daniel were the only student-athletes from Dragon Tennis to qualify for state, other Dragon Tennis players did well at the regional tournament.
The girls doubles team of Sydney Minotti and Aubrey Pham placed fourth while the team overall went 10-6 at the tournament.
