Congratulations are in order for the Lady Dragon soccer team. After defeating Marcus 2-0 on Saturday, April 9, the team is headed to the state tournament this weekend.
“We had done our homework on Marcus and felt like we matched up well with them,” head coach Matt Colvin says. “Marcus vs. Carroll is always an excellent match, and it proved to be again this past Saturday.”
In the first half of the game, Kennedy Fuller scored a goal to make it 1-0. Going into the second half with the lead, Hanna Khan scored the Dragons’ second goal with four minutes left in the game.
“Our match against Marcus was one of our better performances this year. We were extremely proud of the team,” coach Colvin says. “We were excellent in team defending and transitioned well into the attack, specifically our speed in the counter was exceptional.”
Heading into the state tournament on April 15-16, the Lady Dragons will take on Austin Westlake at 12 p.m. on April 15 at Birkelbach Stadium in Georgetown.
“From the start of the year, there has been belief from the entire group that we would get to this point,” coach Colvin says. “As a staff, we feel like we are close to peaking and that is always our goal this time of year.”
