In addition to being the coach of the 2021 6A boys cross-country state champions, Justin Leonard also won the 2021 Cross Country Coach of the Year Award.
Awarded by the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas, winners receive the award for exceptional coaching for the boys or girls cross-country team, according to its website. Coach Leonard received his win after the boys’ won their third consecutive state championship earlier this fall.
“It’s an award I get because of how the boys run and practice each day,” coach Leonard says. “It’s a result of the boys and the season that they had. We were a young team this year, and I’m excited just to get back to work with them next year."
Coach Leonard previously won the coaching award in 2020 for both the boys and girls categories. You can read the full list of coaches of the year award winners at CCCAT.org.
