The Carroll Lady Dragons soccer team is back in the state tournament.
A dominant 3-0 victory over Denton Guyer in the Class 6A Division 2 Regional Championship on Tuesday night punched Carroll's ticket, with all three goals coming from sisters Peyton and Maura Hayes.
The win marks Carroll’s seventh-ever appearance in the state semifinals and the program’s first since capturing the 6A title in 2022. Carroll (26-0-1) will now face Forney (27-1-0) at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
The Hayes sisters were unstoppable against Guyer. Peyton Hayes, an incoming SMU signee, opened the scoring in the 40th minute after receiving a pass from Mariana Auns, rifling a 22-yard shot into the upper left corner just before halftime. Sophomore Maura Hayes made it 2-0 in the 46th minute when Audrey Anderson’s attempt bounced off Guyer goalkeeper Sophie Strain and rolled perfectly to her for an easy finish. Peyton Hayes sealed the win in the 51st minute with her second goal of the game.
The Lady Dragons still have not lost in regulation this season, their lone "blemish" a January 2-2 draw with Prosper Walnut Grove – themselves a state semifinal qualifier in 5A Division 1 after defeating Frisco Reedy, 2-0, earlier this week.
Of note, Grapevine will compete in the state 5A Division 2 bracket, and Keller is headed to the 6A Division 1 state semifinals, cementing Tarrant County’s status as the state’s top girls soccer county in 2026.
