Another outstanding season of swimming and diving by Southlake Carroll is in the books.
After finishing first in the 6A regional meet, the Carroll girls finished with 207 points, good for second behind Keller's 243.5 at the Class 6A University Interscholastic League State meet this past weekend. The Dragon's performance was highlighted by a first-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The race was anchored by Carroll senior Marin Clem, who has never lost a 400 freestyle relay in her entire high school career. Clem also won the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle.
Clem will swim for the University of Georgia next year, and will bring with her 13 high school medals and a state title from 2022.
The first place 400 freestyle relay team of Olivia Colombo, Emma Bibza, Sydney Klopfenstein and Clem finished in 3:24.18, more than a full second ahead of second-place San Antonio Reagan.
Elsewhere on the girls' side, Clem, Colombo, Bibza and Merren Grannell led the Lady Dragons to a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.92. Keller barely edged the Lady Dragons with a time of 1:41.75.
The Lady Dragons also placed 16th in the 200 freestyle relay. That race featured Grannell, Klopfenstein, Ayesha Mahat and Lauren Boswell.
Individually, Bibza placed 8th in the 200 yard freestyle and 6th in the 100 yard butterfly; Bella Sanouvong placed 7th in the 1 meter diving competition; and Colombo placed 3rd in the 100 yard backstroke. Melina Michaelides, a University of Alabama commit, took home fourth place in the 1 meter diving competition with a score of 418.30.
On the boys' side, the Dragons finished in 12th as a team with 72 points. Jack Ma led the way with his second-place finish in the 1 meter diving competition.
The 400 meter freestyle relay team of Dylan Heldenbrand, William Zhang, Kobe Dickheiser and Lucas Mijares placed 6th. The 200 medley relay team of Heldenbrand, Zhang, Mijares and Jackson Hernandez finished 9th.
Hernandez placed 12th in the 50 yard freestyle, and Zhang finished 11th in the 100 yard butterfly.
