CMS boys' and girls' Cross Country teams volunteer with Tarrant Area Food Bank
January 9, 2016 was abrblustery day (the coldest in 10 months, according to local news stations), butbrit didn't stop the Carroll Middle School (CMS) Cross Country teams from lendingbra helping hand. Seventy-two student athletes from the boys' and girls' teamsbrloaded on buses and journeyed to South Ft. Worth for a morning of volunteeringbrwith the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB).
This was the teams' second-annual philanthropy event with the nonprofit, which is the primary sourcebrof donated food for hunger-relief charities and feeding programs in 13 NorthbrTexas counties. In a typical week, TAFB serves more than 50,000 individuals; inbra typical month, it serves more than 53,000 households.
“For the past two years, our Cross Country teams have adopted the food bank as a teambrphilanthropy event. I'm always amazed at what it does for the community, andbrI'm proud of our Dragons for stepping up to serve those in need,” says Boys'brCross Country Coach Zach Sellers.
Claire Stephens, girls'brCross Country coach, says: “I was impressed by the attitudes of our kids. Theybrall wanted to help in every way possible, with smiles on their faces even inbrthe freezing weather.”
She adds: “Coach Sellersbrdoes a great job setting up the event for our kids. They come back thankful andbrwanting to volunteer again.”
Altogether, the CMS CrossbrCountry teams served several hundred families, helping to distribute goods,brcarry items and stock donated materials.
