After several recipes, years of experimenting and a global pandemic to hurdle over, Nicole Ingram is finally ready to bring her gluten-free, low-glycemic bars to Southlake and the DFW area.
After giving birth to her daughter two years ago, Nicole was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and had to adjust her entire diet. Nicole says the shift was significant and essentially changed everything about her lifestyle.
“I had to check my blood sugar like four times a day,” Nicole says. “I had to constantly monitor what I ate. You can only have a low amount of carbs and sugar every day and it’s hard to find on-the-go snacks that fit your dietary needs. It’s very, very difficult.”
Nicole started consuming protein bars, but she wanted to eliminate the chalky taste for a fuller, more authentic flavor.
“It’s a lot trickier than you think,” Nicole says. “I knew there had to be a better way to get that sweet spot of nutrition and taste. I wanted it to be right.”
After experimenting with over 150 recipes, she finally found a solution that worked for her, opened her own business and named it Bella Bars after her newborn daughter.
Through Bella Bars, Nicole sells mint chocolate chip, peanut raspberry and cinnamon roll protein bars from her website. She uses all-natural sugars such as monk fruit and agave as healthier alternatives for sweetness, and directly ships her bars to customers around the local area.
“I started this business based on a need,” Nicole says. “If I was struggling to find something, I knew other people were as well. That’s my mission — to help people find something to help them work towards a healthier lifestyle.”
