There are normal dinner reservations, and then there are the places that make you feel like you actually went somewhere.
Vidorra’s new Grapevine location lands firmly in the second camp.
Housed in the short-lived Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House location, the space only vaguely resembles the restaurant that previously called it home. But the vibe shift starts before you even reach the door, where palms, tropical greenery, and desert plants frame a neon “Cocina de Mexico” sign. For a moment, you could almost convince yourself you just stepped off a plane in Cancun.
Inside, the tropical effect deepens. Giant potted plants divide the dining room, greenery climbs the walls, oversized urns sit among the tables, and sculptural stone faces peek through the landscaping. Moody lighting casts everything in a warm glow, while neon signage and fringed pendant lights infuse the atmosphere with youthful energy.
Translation: It’s made for date night.
Vidorra is the fifth location for the mod-Mex venue from Dallas-based Milkshake Concepts, but the Grapevine outpost feels especially suited to a night when dinner itself is the plan. There’s enough visual interest to make the first few minutes fun, enough energy to keep things lively and plenty on the menu designed to be shared.
Start with the seasoned chips and smoky chipotle salsa, then move into the aperitivos. The queso-birria empanadas are filled with spicy Mexican beef and Oaxaca cheese and served with consommé, while the sampler brings together guacamole, chicken flautas, quesadillas, and empanadas for the table.
From there, the menu moves through street tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and other modern takes on Mexican favorites. But for a little dinner theater, order one of the signature sizzling 400°F molcajete bowls. The Parrillada en Fuego piles in mesquite-grilled marinated beef short ribs, jalapeño-cheddar sausage, chipotle barbecue chicken, fajita vegetables and garlic butter, with warm flour tortillas on the side. There’s also a Verde version with steak, chicken, shrimp, Oaxaca cheese, grilled vegetables, nopales, and salsa verde. It’s the kind of dish that gets everyone at the table leaning in closer. And probably a few neighboring tables looking over, too.
Of course, date night also requires drinks. As one would expect, Vidorra’s margarita menu is brimming with handcrafted cocktails, premium tequilas and extra large options made specially for sharing. The signature Soft Serve Margarita is exactly what it sounds like: a frozen margarita topped with creamy soft serve. Is it slightly over the top? Without a doubt. But is it worth trying? Also yes. And as an added bonus, it’s indulgent enough that it could do double duty as dessert.
Then again, their dessert menu is nothing to scoff at, with classics like churros and alcohol-infused additions like the Kahlua Bundt Cake and Baileys cheesecake. You can also embrace your inner child with their take on fried ice cream, coated in your favorite childhood cereal: aka Fruity Pebbles.
If your ideal date involves daylight, weekend brunch brings chilaquiles, breakfast tacos, Pan Dulce French Toast and tableside mimosas.
But evening is when this space really shines. Once the lights are low and the greenery starts catching thatneon glow, Vidorra feels like a trip south of the border. No passport required.
