If your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier is part of the 80 percent of new year’s resolutions that fail before February, you’re not alone. But it’s never too late to try again. With the Keto, Whole30 and the Mediterranean diets seemingly the most popular right now, one of these diets (or any of the many out there) can fit in with your life and help you eat healthier. And, as a reminder, it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor before beginning a new diet.
The Ketogenic Diet
If you are interested in losing weight while eating healthier, this diet is a good way to do that. The Keto diet is all about dramatically cutting down your intake of carbs and replacing it with fat. In doing so, your body will go into ketosis, which means it will burn fats for energy rather than carbs.
On this diet, the overall goal is to eat less carbs and more fats. Foods they recommend eating are meat, fish, dairy, nuts and oils. Avocados are also great to eat while on this diet. Foods to limit consumption of include sugary foods, any grains or starches, fruit, root vegetables such as potatoes and alcohol.

The Whole30 Diet
If you’re looking for a stricter, more intense diet to lose weight and feel better, you might consider Whole30. Whole30 is a diet based off the books by Melissa Hartwig and Dallas Hartwig. Basically, this diet is a 30-day challenge where you stop eating added sugars, alcohol, grains, legumes, dairy or junk food.
Instead, on this diet, you focus on eating “moderate portions of meat, seafood, and eggs; lots of vegetables; some fruit; plenty of natural fats; and herbs, spices, and seasonings,” according to the Whole30 website. This diet also requires that you don’t weigh or measure yourself during the 30-days, only weighing before and after to see the results the diet had on your weight.
This diet is more intense but it only requires 30 days as part of its program. For recipes, you can go to the Whole30Recipes Instagram or visit Allrecipes. Here’s where you can go to learn about where you can eat Whole30 in Southlake.
The Mediterranean Diet
If you want to ease into the practice of eating healthy without making any huge or drastic changes to your overall diet, the Mediterranean diet is the way to go.
This diet is based on what people in Greece and Italy ate in the 1960s, according to Healthline. It involves eating lots of fruits and vegetables, legumes, potatoes, bread seafood and olive oil while limiting red meat and added sugars. Poultry and dairy are to be eaten in moderation with this diet.
This diet is more fluid than the other two as beyond listing the foods involved in the Mediterranean diet. There are no set rules or restrictions for this diet. You can choose more freely what you want to eat and how you want your Mediterranean diet experience to be. The benefit of doing this diet is the potential to lose weight and it can help generally increase your health.
