MalaibrKitchen, known for itsbrrefreshingly modern approach to Thaibrand Vietnamese cuisine, was recognized for its unique beer selection at thebrBest Little Brewfest in Texas Professional Brewers Competition this pastbrweekend.
Breweries werebrinvited to submit beers (standard brews, one-offs, and trials) to the juriedbrcompetition, which were judged on Saturday, June 6. Winners were announcedbrduring the festival held Saturday, June 18 in Old Town Lewisville.
In the Seasonal Beer category, Malai was awarded the Gold Medal for the Thai-P-Abr(India pale ale brewed with ginger, galangal, turmeric, cilantro,brtoasted coriander, kaffir lime, and lemongrass. American 2-row and crystal maltbralong with turmeric give the ThaiPA a nice orange appearance. Dry hopped withbrAmerican hops to produce a balanced citrus aroma. 7% ABV).
In the Belgian Beer category, Malai receivedbrthe Silver Medal for the Golden Triangle Saison (Saison brewedbrwith German Pilsner and wheat malt. Fermented with the house saison yeast blend,brwhich creates a highly attenuated (dry) beer. Owners Bradenbrand Yasmin Wages continue to raise the bar for Malai's house beer program sincebrits launch in 2014. In early 2016, the Wages opened a second location inbrSouthlake with larger brewing facilities and hired a brew master, MattbrReynolds, to oversee production and make sure Malai's program remains on thebrforefront. Just this week, a new tapbrsystem is being installed in Uptown allowing for six draft beers to be offered (vs. the original three).
