There’s no shortage of margaritas in Southlake. But not all are created equal.
From spicy and smoky to frozen and fruit-forward, the perfect marg is personal. So we asked around the office and rounded up a few staff favorites that are worth seeking out, whether you’re in it for the tequila, the Tajín rim, or just a really good patio moment.
For a crowd-sourced starting point, our Readers’ Choice voters have spoken: Esparza's Restaurante Mexicano takes the top spot for best margarita, followed by Mi Cocina and Muchacho Tex-Mex. We can't argue with these picks! Here’s what we’re ordering right now:
At Mesero, Mike goes for the Jalapiña—a bright, slightly spicy mix of Herradura Silver tequila, fresh pineapple, jalapeño, Cointreau, and citrus. It’s sweet with a fair amount of heat, and, as he puts it, “Mesero judges spice the way it should be — where hot is actually hot.” It’s balanced, refreshing, and just enough kick to keep things interesting. And if you’re not in a margarita mood, Nicole swears by their sangria, a blend of brandy, citrus, and pinot noir that drinks just as easily on a warm afternoon.
Katie keeps it classic (with a twist) at Velvet Taco with the KICK ASS MARGARITA®. Made with Lunazul blanco tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and agave, it’s straightforward and exactly what you want alongside a basket of tacos.
Tim’s pick leans nostalgic: the famous strawberry margarita at Fort Worth's legendary Joe T. Garcia's. Frozen, a little sweet, and always consistent, it’s the kind of drink that pairs best with a long table and no plans afterward.
Aperol spritz, who? Katelynn loves the Sparkling Peach Margarita at Gloria's Latin Cuisine: a mix of Hornitos Silver tequila, triple sec, peach purée, and lime juice, topped with a mini bottle of Ruffino Prosecco.
The one and only Kelly has long been a loyal devotee of Esparza's Restaurante Mexicano's Esparzarita, a top-shelf blend featuring Cuervo Gold and Grand Marnier. Smooth, citrus-forward, and a longtime local favorite, it’s easy to see why it earned the top Readers’ Choice spot.
And for those who like a little heat, Cynthia couldn’t pick just one. At Mi Cocina, the Handmade Spicy — made with Flecha Azul Blanco, Grand Marnier, fresh jalapeño, agave, and a Tajín rim —I s bold, balanced, and a standout among this year’s Readers’ Choice winners. For her other fave, she heads to Muchacho Tex-Mex for the Pasilla de Humo, a smoky, slightly savory mix featuring Tres Agaves Reposado tequila, Nixta corn liqueur, ancho verde, agave, Tajín, and lime.
