The Michelin Guide, long the gold standard for foodies across the world, announced its first Texas recipients in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio, awarding 15 Texas restaurants with their coveted star.
Tatsu, a Japanese restaurant in Dallas' Deep Ellum, won DFW's lone one star rating. In addition, seven DFW establishments were given the prestigious Bib Gourmand designation, which is given to restaurants with high quality food at a reasonable price. Twenty were given "Recommended" status for excellent cooking. DFW also claims the only award given in Texas for "Exceptional Cocktails," which cane be found at Rye on Greenville Avenue.
Dallas' Bib Gourmand winners are Cattleack Barbeque, Gemma, Lucia, Mot Hai Ba, Ngon Vietnamese and Nonna.
The recommended restaurants are Barsotti’s, Crown Block, El Carlos Elegante, Fearing’s, Georgie, Harvest, Knox Bistro, Mercat Bistro, Monarch, Quarter Acre, Rye, Sachet, Stillwell’s, Stock & Barrel, Tei-An, Mister Charles and Written by the Seasons.
Ft. Worth's Goldee’s was also given Bib Gourmand designation, and Birrieria y Taqueria Cortez, Panther City BBQ, Smoke’N Ash BBQ all made the Recommended list.
The guide was first published by the French tire company in 1926 to give motorists advice on the most travel-worthy destinations. Since then, Michelin stars have become the most coveted accolade that any restaurant can receive worldwide. The Guide focuses on a three-star rating and also acknowledges trip-worthy, non-starred restaurants with its Bib Gourmand designation.
