The Grapevine indie bookstore has officially opened a new coffee bar inside its South Main Street location, adding roasted coffee drinks, teas, frappuccinos, Italian sodas, and energy refreshers to its growing list of offerings.
For co-owner Katy Lemieux, the addition is more than a new menu. It is part of the original dream for the store.
“We’re really excited about the new coffee bar and what it will bring to the space,” says Katy. “Adding the coffee bar was always part of the dream for Talking Animals Books, and moving into our second location finally allowed us the opportunity to grow that vision.”
Founded by Lemieux and Valerie Walizadeh in 2023, Talking Animals Books quickly became a community favorite, known for its packed author events, lively book clubs and thoughtful selection of titles across genres including horror, romance, science fiction and more. The bookstore opened its expanded Main Street location last November, giving the team more room for browsing, events and bigger literary gatherings.
Now, with the coffee bar in place, that vision feels even more complete.
“We wanted to create more than just a bookstore,” Katy says. “We wanted to build a true community gathering space where people could spend time, connect with one another, attend events and discover books in a warm and welcoming environment.”
The expanded space has also allowed Talking Animals to host more programming and events while creating new ways for the community to gather around books.
“We hope the coffee bar encourages people to linger a little longer and makes the bookstore feel even more inviting and accessible,” Katy adds.
