When it comes tobrmainstays at Grapevine Craft Brewery (GCB), Monarch is up there. Formerly abrfiltered wheat beer, Monarch was one of the first beers released by GCB inbr2014.
According to GCB: “Thebrintention of the beer was always to be our lighter fare option, sessionable, brclean and easy to drink. It's unique and there are not many examples ofbrkristalweizen-style beers in our local market. There are plenty of blonde alesbraround Texas … we didn't want to throw our hat into that bag. And for the mostbrpart, the brand has been well received. In fact, sales volume grew over 100brpercent in 2015 over 2014 sales. The problem, however, is that there has alwaysbrbeen some amount of confusion for consumers.”
So, Monarch gets newbrbranding and new style, officially going from a filtered wheat beer to abrPilsner. “We've decided to give our fans what they really want and take the guessbrwork out of it. The wheat beer that drinks like a pilsner is now … wait for itbr— a Pilsner! Genius,” according to GCB.
The name remains thebrsame; as for the taste, expect it to be good, but not fancy. It's light-bodiedbrand slightly hopped for a perfect finish. It's true to a German-style beer withbra low-hop aroma, mild bitterness and a Vienna malt backdrop.
