The theatre community was hit really hard by COVID-19. How are actors supposed to perform on stage while being socially distanced and wearing masks? Dallas Summer Musicals decided to postpone its season twice to ensure the safety of their cast and its audience. The wait is nearly over, so read more about shows you can see this year.
“Wicked” is the first musical to take the stage and will be running from August 4 through September 5. “Wicked” is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz and shares the untold stories of the witches in Oz. “Wicked” is the story of how Elphaba gets named the Wicked Witch on the West and how Glinda becomes the Good Witch of the North.
“Jersey Boys” will be running from October 19 through 31. The story of four normal boys from Jersey who come together and become something big, the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Season. The musical gives the audience a sneak peek into the four musicians’ lives and how they overcame many obstacles.
Lastly, “Hamilton” will be running from November 16 through December 5. It tells the story of American Founding Father Alexandra Hamilton. Split into two acts, “Hamilton” shares how many historical characters influenced Hamilton’s life. “Hamilton” is a sung-and-rapped-through musical and history lesson all in one.
“Hadestown,” “Rent,” “Come From Away,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Mean Girls,” “Oklahoma!” and “Frozen” are all scheduled to hit the stage in 2022.
