There are many family-friendly events going on this weekend that are both fun and beneficial at the same time. Whether you work on self-development through House of Shine’s programs, support the downtown Grapevine railroad or race in a 1-mile or 5K fun run for a good cause, there are several things to do this weekend that benefit both you and others.
After being canceled last year due to COVID-19, the fifth annual Run4Elise is making its triumphant return this weekend. At 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 at Gateway Church, runners will come together to race either in the 1-mile or 5K fun run in honor of Elise Cerami, who passed away from drowning in 2016. After the race, refreshments will be handed out to participants and the Run4Elise awards will be presented at 9:30 a.m.
The Bob Jones Nature Center continues its outdoor fitness series this weekend with a free class on how to practice yoga. From 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, May 15 at E. Bob Jones Road, trainers will show you how to relax, move and bend your body, no matter your skill level. Plus one lucky winner will receive a special prize at the end of the class. Winners for the event’s grand prize will be drawn on Monday, May 17.
Do-it-yourself crafts meet random acts of kindness in House of Shine’s Shineworks event. At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 at 334 S. Barton St., House of Shine is hosting a fun arts and crafts event where you can create one-of-a-kind items using paper, scissors, tape, glue and much more. When you’re done, share your craft with someone in the community that could use a smile to brighten their day. Tickets are $20.
In all of the busyness of today’s world, sketching your thoughts and feelings on paper can feel therapeutic. That’s why House of Shine is hosting a journaling club to help you do just that. At 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, journalers will gather at 334 S. Barton St. and write about the topic of the day. Come and join House of Shine and learn to get in touch with the inner you. Tickets are $10.
