It’s the day after Thanksgiving, and you need to get out of the house after stuffing yourself with turkey and pumpkin pie. Thankfully, there's more to do this weekend than just snacking on leftovers from the fridge. Whether you want to check out the new animated movie "Frozen II" or make your own clay Christmas tree, here are five family-friendly events this weekend that will get you feeling that early holiday cheer.
Do you want to build a snowman? What about a snow cupcake? Swing by Taste Buds Kitchen at 9 a.m. on Saturday at 2140 E. Southlake Blvd., Suite V and build snow princess cupcakes to kick the weekend off right. Coat your cupcake in icy blue frosting, pour snowflake sprinkles on top and get ready to taste your own winter wonderland. Tickets are $28 per child and supervisor. Come, be merry and enjoy these frosty delights.
Santa may be infamous for his love of milk and cookies, but one thing he arguably loves just as much is donuts. Give donuts to Santa in-person at Donuts with Santa at Austin Lorin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at 5655 Colleyville Blvd. Take your picture with Santa, enjoy complimentary donuts and even pet Santa’s real reindeer at this free event. Come, meet Santa Claus and enjoy donuts with the big man himself!
'Frozen II' Private Movie Showing
Are you dying to check out the sequel to one of Disney’s biggest hits of all time? Summer Santa is hosting a private screening of “Frozen 2” at 3 p.m. this Saturday at Harkins Theatre at 1450 Plaza Pl. Enjoy buttery popcorn, sip on delicious soda and “Let It Go” with Elsa, Anna and more of their frozen friends. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children under 12. All proceeds go towards Summer Santa to benefit children in need.
Everyone enjoys the classical Christmas tree, but what about Christmas trees made out of clay? Come to Sunshine Glaze Creative Studio at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at 150 N. Main St. in Grapevine and create your own clay Christmas trees with other creative young artists. Form your own Christmas tree, paint it the same day and send it into the furnace to be dried just in time for Christmas a few weeks from now. Clay Christmas trees are $25 each.
Southlake Historical Society Bird Feeding
Santa and his reindeer aren’t the only ones flying in the wintery weather this Christmas season – several resilient birds are flying right alongside them. Come learn about them and make your own pine cone feeders for the holidays at the Southlake Historical Society’s bird feeding event at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Bicentennial Park. The event is free and open to the public, just register in advance so you can join the Southlake Historical Society and some of its feathered-winged friends!
