The holidays are looking a little different for everybody this year. Whether you are cooking turkey dinner for yourself or hopping on Zoom calls with your family, Thanksgiving in 2020 isn't how anybody envisioned it to be. But if you're looking for fun, safe and socially-distanced activities to distract you from the gloominess of 2020, here are a few events to take your family to this weekend.
Need to work up an appetite so you can fit Thanksgiving dinner into your stomach? The Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers is hosting its annual anti-turkey trot at 7 a.m. on Thursday at Rockledge Park. Tie your running shoes, join the group and come run, walk or hike whichever distance you want to. Bring a packaged toy and you can also donate to Grapevine’s Santa Cops toy collection as well.
If you’re looking for an afternoon to play with other kids in an active and exciting environment, NTA Taekwondo has got you covered. The Colleyville martial arts studio at 1101 Cheek-Sparger Road is hosting a Thanksgiving camp all day Friday where kids can dance, play dodgeball or jump through an obstacle course. Your kids will have a blast working off the pumpkin pie in this fun and engaging children’s camp.
Fifth Annual Stagecoach Hills Christmas Tree Lighting
Those that missed Southlake’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony will get the chance to catch another one this weekend. At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at 13187 Thornton Dr., the city of Roanoke will be at Stagecoach Hills for its fifth annual tree lighting ceremony. Watch the tree light up in a dazzling display and travel along the Christmas trail afterwards that’s brightly lit with its own seasonal lights. Tickets are $10.
"I Love Christmas Movies" Exhibit
The Gaylord Texan Hotel has debuted an exciting new multi-sensory exhibit, and you can explore it this weekend. “I Love Christmas Movies” is a 17,000 square-foot journey that takes you through some of your favorite scenes in Christmas classics such as “Elf,” “A Christmas Story” and “The Polar Express.” Stick around and you can check out the Yuletide Bright outdoor light display afterwards. Tickets are $14.99-23.99.
Have you ever wanted to ride the North Pole Express? Well now you can! The Great Wolf Lodge has transformed the Grapevine Vintage Railroad into a festive freighter that is packed with elves, silver bells and all the hot chocolate you can drink. For $34 you can ride on the North Pole Express until December 22. Don’t wait — tickets sell out fast!
