Whether you are just looking for a local fireworks show for Wednesday night or different events to fill your weekend, we’ve got your fourth plans covered. Here’s what’s going on around the Metroplex for July 4.
Southlake | Stars & Stripes
This year has been the time for big milestones. First, Southlake Town Square turned 20. Next, Art in the Square celebrated its 20th anniversary. Now, it’s Stars and Stripes turn. The 20th annual Stars and Stripes celebration will take place on July 3 from 6 to 11 p.m. The community event will include live entertainment for kids of all ages, an assortment of food and musical acts. But the real party will start at 9:30 p.m. when, weather permitting, the fireworks start. They will be launched from the rooftop of the West Park Garage to ensure they can be viewed throughout Southlake Town Square. It’ll be a great night for all to enjoy.
Addison | Kaboom Town!
Addison Kaboom Town! is a symphony of freedom ⎯ the loud roar of engines as planes soar, dip and spin through the air, the hypnotic boom of fireworks popping and lighting up the sky and the sweet melody of the community gathered to cheer and sing along to their favorite patriotic songs. It’s the most beautiful sound in the world! This Independence Day celebration has been putting on a spectacular show for more than 30 years, complete with a para-jumpers, an historic air show, aerobatic flights, live music and a jaw-dropping fireworks finale. During the day, stay entertained with carnival games and activities, delicious grub and plenty of red-white-and-blue photo opportunities.
Frisco | Hotter ’n’ Firecrackers 5K and Glow Run
Who needs fireworks when you can sparkle instead? At the Hotter ’n’ Firecrackers 5K and Glow Run on July 3, runners are encouraged to wear flashy clothes, fluorescent accessories and flashing LED lights to make the Frisco Square glow! Afterward, take your finisher’s medal and T-shirt to the afterparty, where you can dance to electronic music and other hits spun by a JJ. This race is part of Frisco Freedomfest, which also includes the fun Dachshund Dash, live music, the Children’s Expo with bounce houses and face painting, Taste of Frisco treats, and one of the largest fireworks finales in the area. At the end of the night, your smile will be shining even brighter than your outfit!
Grapevine | 37th annual Fireworks Extravaganza
For a show closer to home on July 4, venture over to Grapevine on Thursday for the 37th annual Fireworks Extravaganza. The 30-minute show is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. sharp, and this year promises to be the biggest spectacular yet.If you want to get up close to the action, head to one of the approved watching areas around Lake Grapevine. Seeing the red, white and blue over the water will be a sight you soon won’t forget. For more fun over the weekend, Grapevine will also host the Swashbuckler Express, a kid-friendly pirate adventure taking place on the Grapevine Vintage railroad on July 5, and the First Friday on the Farm at Nash Farm on July 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Irving | Independence Day Parade & Reception
A day full of cheer is just waiting at Irving’s Independence Parade & Reception happening on July 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This city tradition is a favorite for families thanks to the festive floats and loads of flags. This year’s theme is “Continued Commitment to Our Troops – Show Them We Care,” so it’s set to be a patriotic scene. After the final float passes by, stick around for the reception at Heritage Park. Guests can enjoy free watermelon, airbrush tattoos, music and balloons.
Dallas | Five On The 4th
Get red, white and sweaty at Five on the 4th! Before unwinding with Fourth of July beers and hot dogs, go for a run at Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas, benefiting YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. Depending on how adventurous you are feeling, there are three different courses to choose from (and a bonus one for kids ages 12 and under) that give you generous views of the beautiful Uptown: the five-mile run at 8 a.m., the 5K run at 8:30 a.m. and the dog-friendly, two-mile walk at 8:45a.m. Afterward, get in the holiday spirit by drinking complimentary Samuel Adams (if you are 21 or older) and participating in the watermelon eating contest, getting your face painted or just stretching out and enjoying the beautiful weather.
Fort Worth | Fort Worth’s Fourth
Party like it’s 1776 at Fort Worth’s Fourth! Here, the birth of our nation is commemorated with water shows, all-day live music, a jet-pack hydro-flight show and an incredible 29-minute fireworks display. Other highlights include a local band competition, festival food (kettle corn, turkey legs, corn dogs!) and a free KidZone area where little ones can go on horseback rides, get their faces painted, let out their energy on the bounce houses, water slides, zip lining and more. Adults should bring their swimsuits (and sunscreen) as well, because you’ll want to go tubing in the river to stay cool. Wear Stars and Stripes-themed attire, bring your American spirit and get ready for a good time!
