School’s almost out, which also means it’s almost time for spring break! Southlake families are spending their time off from March 9-13 in several ways, whether they’re playing in the park, going to the movies or even traveling to an exciting new destination. If you’re one of those families that are keeping it local, here are a few things going on in the community that you can do for spring break.
1. Play With Animals
It’s always a good time to pet, play and cuddle with fluffy animals. There’s always the BooBoo's Buddies Dog Park you can go to at Bob Jones Park, as well as the Bark Park in Grapevine and the Freedom Dog Park in Trophy Club. But those aren’t the only animals you can interact with. The city is also hosting its Critterman event at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Southlake Public Library, where you can play with animals of many shapes and sizes.
2. Create Some Art
There’s no shortage of opportunities to express your artistic creativity this week. At 10 a.m. on Monday, March 9, Southlake is hosting Chalk Art In The Square, where you’ll be able to draw up the sidewalks as much as you want. There’s a watercolor class going on that same evening at 6 p.m. in the Southlake Public Library, where you’ll bring color and life to a blank canvas. Sunshine Glaze Creative Studio is even hosting a pottery class at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10 in Grapevine.
3. Build With Legos
It’s always exciting to build new people, places and adventures with Legos, and you can do just that this spring break. The city is hosting its own Lego workshops Tuesday afternoon at the Southlake Public Library, and you can build Lego creations as large and high as you want. The Legoland Discovery Center will also be building its own Lego experiences during its spring break camps all week long, with tickets ranging between $19-$35. Champions Club is even hosting a Lego Brick Royale from Monday to Thursday.
4. Join A Spring Break Camp
There’s no shortage of youth clubs to join during spring break. For instance, the Southlake Tutoring Academy has several spring break camps you can join where you can strategize at chess, participate in team sports and even play "Minecraft." Durham Intermediate School has an interactive camp mania where you can play games, make arts and crafts and participate in other fun activities. There’s even a coder camp that kids can sign up for on Monday and Tuesday thanks to CISD’s Cindy Featherston.
5. Go To Champions Club
Besides its own spring break camps, Champions Club has no shortage of fun extracurricular activities to do on spring break. For instance, its courts are perfect for an enthralling basketball or volleyball game, while the turf field is ideal for outdoor soccer. The Champs Playground is available for your little champs to explore and go down the slides. Then there’s the pool area, which includes its open swim area, a spa, lap lanes and a not-so-lazy river. Whatever you’re interested in, Champions Club is fit for your spring break.
