With the cancellation of St. Patrick’s Day events around north Texas due to the coronavirus, fun opportunities to celebrate are getting smaller and smaller. So if your St. Patrick’s Day plans were dashed by the virus, here are some ways of celebrating at home without losing any of the fun.
Bake St. Patrick’s Day Treats
Whether it’s cake, cookies or brownies, there are tons of festive recipes out there to try. Whether it’s cupcakes with green icing and sprinkles or green velvet layer cake, the end result will always be delicious (as long as you don’t mix up salt and sugar)! Even if you and your family aren’t the best at baking, you’re sure to make some fantastic memories.
Watch St. Paddy’s Day Movies
St. Patrick’s Day probably isn’t what comes to mind when you think about holiday movies, but there are a lot more than you would expect. A kid-friendly option is the Disney Channel original movie “Luck of the Irish” about a boy who learns he’s part leprechaun. Horror fans can indulge in 1993’s “Leprechaun” starring Jennifer Aniston, while “Philomena” and “Brooklyn” are perfect Irish dramas for people who don’t want to go all in on a St. Patrick’s Day movie.
Try Your Hand at Some Crafts
A perfect activity for families with children to entertain, making crafts is a great way to get the family together and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Whether you decide to make a leprechaun out of a plate or fill your house with pages of clovers made from cupcake liners, making crafts is a great way to celebrate March 17 with the family. And though crafting can be messy, you can alleviate the mess somewhat by having a dedicated corner for crafting and laying down some newspaper.
Read About St. Patrick’s Day
Reading is such a great indoor activity, so use this opportunity to learn more about St. Patrick’s Day. If you have kids, there are dozens of children’s books about the holiday like “The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day” by Natasha Wing or “How to Catch a Leprechaun” by Adam Wallace. While the offerings of books about St. Patrick’s Day for adults are slim, you can watch documentaries about the holiday like "Wearing the Green" and "St. Patrick."
