Clara, the Mouse King and the Sugar Plum Fairy are all coming to White’s Chapel next week for the retelling of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s "The Nutcracker." The Apex Arts League and the Avant Chamber Ballet are teaming up to bring “The Nutcracker: Short and Suite” to the Metroplex. While many of its song and dance numbers are retained from the original production, “The Nutcracker: Short and Suite” is a shortened one-hour variation focusing on the technique of the classical ballet, so families can enjoy it alongside seasoned ballet fans.
“Each year, we update and refresh the production with little changes to the choreography and costumes,” ACB artistic director Katie Cooper says in a press release. “It doesn't seem like the holidays without Nutcracker, but it's great to be able to do something a little bit different.”
“The Nutcracker: Short and Suite” follows Clara, a young girl who becomes affectionate toward her nutcracker that she received on Christmas Eve. But when the Mouse King and his army infest her home, the Nutcracker comes to life and catapults himself and Clara through an epic holiday adventure.
“This performance is a perfect introduction to everyone’s favorite ballet,” Katie says in a press release. “'The Nutcracker: Short and Suite' will get you in the spirit and launch your holiday season.”
"The Nutcracker: Short and Suite" will run from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at White’s Chapel UMC, located at 185 S. White Chapel Blvd. Ticket prices are $10 for children, $15 for seniors and Apex members and $20 for adults.
