If the end of Fat Bear Week left a bear-shaped hole in your heart, never fear! Nov. 3 marks the beginning of this year’s Polar Bear Week!
Polar Bear Week, hosted by Polar Bears International, aims to create awareness about the importance of sea ice to polar bears and how climate change affects them, stressing the importance of climate change action.
The week falls in line with the fall migration of polar bears to Churchill, Manitoba, where “polar bears gather to wait for freeze-up on Hudson Bay so they can return to hunting seals,” according to Polar Bears International.
People can watch the polar bears as they gather at Hudson Bay with Polar Bears International’s live cams. The organization puts on broadcasts called Tundra Connections where experts talk about polar bears and viewers can ask questions.
Beyond live cams, Polar Bears International is also encouraging people to take action in regard to climate change with downloadable postcards people can send to their representatives, among other resources on their website.
And if you want to know more about polar bears before Polar Bear Week begins, head over to Polar Bears International for some fun facts about the animals.
If watching the Fat Bear Week live cams was the highlight of your October, make November great by celebrating Polar Bear Week!
