The Vela backpack was first launched by Miuccia Prada in 1984. Instead of leather or other luxury fabrics, it was made from water-resistant nylon that immediately turned heads and the fashion world upside down.
Forty years later, not much has changed — the bag is still water-resistant, but its tell-tale pocone fabric once made for military tents has been updated in a style that is much more sustainable. Since 2019, the triangular logo of the famed Italian fashion house has rested upon Re-Nylon — a fabric made from plastic material harvested from the ocean that is then purified and recycled.
Early fans of the Re-Nylon look and minimalist designs included Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa. This particular bag may be simple, but with two symmetrical front pockets, it is also more than functional. For those on the go, the top can be closed with a quick pull of the drawstring closure and further secured with the logo adorned top flap. Inside, the bag has two more pockets, including one with a zipper closure, perfect for essential items.
Unveil your inner fashionista by either carrying or wearing this iconic bag thanks to its adjustable woven handle and straps. The versatile black version of the bag comes in both small and medium sizes, however, the former can also be found in light blue and desert beige for the more seasonally inclined.
