Carroll ISD is back in full swing, and Southlake is looking forward to both a new school year and a new Dragon Football season. However, that isn’t all Southlake has to look forward to this fall.
1. Carroll ISD Modifies COVID-19 Protocols
Before the first day of school kicked off on August 16, Carroll ISD Superintendent Dr. Lane Ledbetter held his first Dragon update for the new semester on Facebook Live, and he had some changes to share about CISD’s COVID-19 protocols. While masks continue to remain optional, Dr. Ledbetter informed the community that parents of children pre-K through sixth grade will be notified of new cases since those students are ineligible to get vaccinated.
2. Frescas Opens On Southlake Boulevard
Southlake residents are always eager to learn about new restaurant offerings, and Frescas provides just that on Southlake Boulevard. After opening earlier last month, residents were eager to learn about all of the Mexican eatery’s snacks, desserts and drinks, from its street-style corn on the cob and corn in a cup to nachos and cheesy corn chips. Hungry customers can order from Frescas online at DoorDash or GrubHub.
3. Hailey Hernandez Finishes Ninth At 2020 Summer Olympics
Quarterback Kaden Anderson wasn’t the only Dragon athlete that shined last month. During the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Hailey Hernandez finished ninth out of 27 divers for the 3-meter springboard, with a final score of 288.45. While she didn’t win a medal, Southlake was proud of Hailey’s Olympic-level performance and welcomed her home during a celebration at Feedstore BBQ & More on August 13.
4. Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles Relocates To Grapevine
After serving southern fried food to the community for more than five years, Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles has made the move from Southlake to Grapevine last summer. Opening in July 2016, Lo-Lo’s provides waffles, fried chicken, catfish, shrimp and more. While it shut down its former location at 1201 E. State Hwy. 114, you can now enjoy its deep-fried delights at 1450 W. State Hwy. 114 in Grapevine Towne Center.
5. From Across The Pond Appears On Food Network’s 'Restaurant: Impossible'
Colleyville’s From Across The Pond got a fresh new makeover over the summer, and locals got to watch it all happen on the Food Network. On June 5, a television crew came to the British restaurant to film for its newest episode of “Restaurant: Impossible.” The episode aired on the Food Network on August 26 and viewers can watch the makeover for themselves on Hulu and YouTube TV.
