A lot happened in Southlake during the month of June. While Southlake said goodbye to many beloved restaurants, it also welcomed some new faces that are looking forward to becoming a part of the Southlake community.
1. EVO Entertainment Coming To Former Harkins Theaters Location
When Harkins Southlake 14 closed last year, the community was devastated that Southlake’s most popular theater was leaving after 15 years of business. Then Mayor John Huffman announced that the city would be considering a new entertainment center for the vacant space in late June. The Southlake City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission ended up approving the entertainment venue EVO Entertainment to fill that space, which is aiming for a December opening later this year.
2. What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, represents one of the most elusive mysteries facing audiologists, ENTs and neurologists today. And thankfully, Dr. Elyssa Washburn from Love To Hear Again Audiology in Grapevine breaks down everything you need to know about the hearing condition. In this helpful article, Dr. Washburn informs readers what tinnitus is, what the symptoms are and what relief or treatment is available for it.
3. Herencia Closes In Southlake
Herencia Texican Cuisine shut its doors for good last month after serving the area for two years. Blending its traditional Latin American entrees with a Texan twist, Herencia’s flavorful cuisine was a finalist in multiple Southlake Style Readers’ Choice categories, including its popular Texican Margarita winning Best Cocktail in 2020. A partner with the Shops of Southlake developer the Weitzman Group confirmed its closure and that the company is in the process of retenanting its space.
4. Discovering Texas’ Tiny Dwellings
Southlake is very interested in traveling this summer, which may be one reason why June’s Boarding Pass resonated so well with our readers. In this department, we showcase a few of the most unique Airbnbs you can check out in Texas this summer. Airbnbs featured in this article included the Adobe Dome in Terlingua, the Vintage Airstream in Austin, the Silo House in Troy and the Container Tiny House in Waco.
5. Howard Wang’s China Grill Closes
Opening in 2013, Howard Wang’s China Grill offered more than 30 years of original, family-crafted recipes on its menu, including Peking duck, ginger beef tenderloin and shrimp and sea scallops. While it sadly closed on June 25, a new Mexican restaurant concept called Mesero will be opening in its place later this year. Thankfully you can still enjoy Howard Wang’s delightful cuisine at its other restaurants located in Dallas and Frisco.
