After April showers have come and gone, May flowers begin to blossom. In Texas, this means that lavender season has begun. Starting this month and running through September, rows and rows of this alluring flower begin to bloom on farms all across the state. From a local pasture up north to a regal estate that doubles as a vineyard, Texas lavender farms are just as enchanting as the state itself. Whether it is to pick some stalks to bring home, shop lovely lavender products or take in the fresh, floral air, these delightful farms are ready for your arrival.
Chappell Hill Lavender Farm | Brenham
The Chappell Hill Lavender Farm began with just 20 plants nearly 20 years ago. Today, several of the farm’s 23 acres are dedicated to lavender, through which guests can peruse with their pets free of charge. Around a four-hour drive from Southlake, Chappell Hill Lavender Farm ensures everybody can come out and enjoy its bright, violet blooms nestled in the Hill Country. With both a gazebo and a pond on the property, picnics are always accompanied by a gorgeous view. The farm’s rolling acres also double as the backdrop for idyllic photos perfect for memorializing the trip until next time.
Hill Country Lavender Farm | Blanco
Located in the heart of Central Texas, Hill Country Lavender Farm originally got its start in 1999. Now, 23 years later, it is still going strong with more than 2,000 lavender plants across 1.25 acres. Visitors and their dogs can come to the farm for free and spend a relaxing afternoon wandering the pathways and taking in the fresh Texas air. Guests who leave more inspired than when they arrived can take a page out of the farm’s recipe book to make a host of lavender drinks right at home. Those who wish to cultivate their green thumbs after the trip can purchase a plant to grow flowers right from their own backyards.
Lavender Ridge Farms | Gainesville
A little more than an hour’s drive away from Southlake, Lavender Ridge Farms near Gainesville didn’t start growing lavender until 2006 under owners Jane Dane and Jerry Ware. In the 16 years since, the farm has blossomed to include a cafe, a garden center and a gift shop with more than 100 handmade products. After enjoying the bountiful lavender rows, guests can take a seat under a canopy of trees at the farm’s cafe to sip on lavender lemonade or tea while digging into the lavender cheesecake or ice cream, the latter of which is topped with lavender honey. And a trip to Lavender Ridge isn’t considered complete until after taking some time to visit with the farm’s animals or relaxing under one of the property’s large oak trees.
Becker Vineyards And Lavender Farm | Fredericksburg
For those looking for an upscale and posh lavender farm experience, it is time to get in the car and head out to Fredericksburg. With its first blooms planted nearly 25 years ago in 1998, Becker Vineyards and Lavender Farm offer every visitor two experiences in just one visit. Admiring the rows of lavender can — and should — be coupled with an elegant wine tasting, savoring the estate’s varieties of reds, whites and roses. To enhance the experience for its guests, the estate hosts live music on weekends and sells a variety of lavender products in its shop like lotion and bath bombs. The vineyard even offers gift bundles — curated boxes of either its libations or lavender — for those looking to bring more than memories home with them.
