The Carroll Varsity and Carroll JV cheerleading squads recently competed in the NCA High School Nationals held at the Dallas Convention Center.  Teams from around the nation vied for much sought after trophies and awards as this annual prestigious competition.

Founded in 1948 by SMU cheerleader, Lawrence Herkimer, the National Cheerleading Association began with camps to teach young cheerleaders how to “lead the crowd” and also be leaders within their schools and communities.

Trophies were awarded in both Performance divisions and Game Time divisions.  The Performance division categorizes teams by school level, skill level, number of athletes, and all-girl or co-ed designation while the Game Time division awards in the categories of sideline cheerleading, fight song, and time-out dance with teams being classified by school level.

The Carroll Varsity squad earned a third place after competing in the Advance, Medium, High School Division and the Junior Varsity Dragon Squad brought home a second place trophy in the Advanced JV division.  The JV team also earned an award for the “Best Use of Tumbling.”

Both the Varsity and JV Dragon Cheerleaders will host their spring cheer clinic at CSHS on February 23rd.  Designed for ages Kindergarten – 6th grade, these future Dragon Cheerleaders will learn the fundamentals of cheerleading such as jumps, tumbling, dance, stunts, and cheers.  The highlight of the day is an exhibition performance for parents and friends.  Visit Carroll Dragon Cheer for registration details.
