One year ago, Big Tex went down in flames. A fair icon since 1952, today he rose from the ashes to once again open this year's Texas State Fair. After hiding under a tent with 24-hour security the next generation of Big Tex met crowds of enthusiastic fans a little earlier than expected this morning.
A handsome spectacle, Big Tex’s 55-foot tall frame is a full three feet taller than his older brother and sports a brand new Dickies shirt. He got some new Luchesse boots too— size 12—feet that is.
With a Texas State Fair offseason diet he’s also added 19,000 pounds from a year ago. At 25,000 pounds, he may want to lay off the fried butter.
The 2013 State Fair of Texas will run today September 27 – October 20. An annual tradition since 1886 this year’s fair includes more 10,000 livestock entries, 5,000 creative arts entries across nearly 400,000 square feet of exhibit space. The midway will host 75 rides for children of all ages.
Admission: General $17. Child (3 years and up to 48” tall) $13. Senior Citizens (60 and over) $13.
