Unique Private School to Open in Southlake

Fusion Academy, an accredited private school serving grades 6-12, is scheduled to open in Southlake on September 1. This non-traditional school model customizes each student’s curriculum to accommodate wherever they may be in their education. It also allows for an emotional connection between teachers and students, as course material is presented at the student’s pace and delivered in a way to best support their strengths and challenges.

Fusion was founded in San Diego in 1989 out of frustration with the typical school model. Fusion Academy Southlake, located at 301 State St. in Town Square, will be the sixth Fusion Academy in Texas and 33rd in the nation. Its model has been proven in Austin, Houston, The Woodlands, Dallas and Plano. The Dallas and Plano schools, which opened last year, have been successful with 52 students enrolled between the two. The decision to open the Southlake location was made after research indicated a strong need in the area for a one-to-one educational option.

“Fusion represents a revolutionary approach to learning that is imperative in the changing educational landscape,” says Stephen Schwartz, Head of School at Fusion Academy Southlake. “While the traditional model works well for many, today’s students require a model that transcends the one-size fits all approach to learning.”

Schwartz is an educator with extensive experience in special education and tutoring. Fusion is unique in that it offers flexible scheduling that enables students to spend quality time with family and friends outside the classroom, while making sure they receive the instructional support necessary to complete assignments. At Fusion, homework is completed in the “Homework Café” on campus, and students are signed out by their lead teacher before leaving school.

At Fusion, classes are offered year round so students can enroll in classes at any time. Students seeking to make up a course, get ahead or simply have some fun can take standard academic courses for credit or sample the Fusion program by taking the Fusion Intensive, which allows students a semester for credit plus a sampling of art/music, Leadership Skills and Study Skills for a special introductory price.

Parents and students interested in Fusion can visit or call 866.465.2558 to attend an information meeting. On the website, you can RSVP to one of these upcoming events to learn more.
