The Carroll Dragons (1-1) quickly shook off a season opening loss, hitting the road again in week two against Tulsa Union (0-1). The newly minted rivalry ended with another thrilling conclusion where the Dragons held tough for an amazing 34-30 victory. Behind strong performances from junior QB Mason Holmes and Dragon Pride Playerof the Week Shemar Coleman, the Dragons' overcame a 16-point halftime deficit for their first win of the season.

Tulsa scored the first thirteen points of the game behind two Tyler Adkins touchdowns before Holmes settled in early in the second quarter, finding Zach Farrar in the back of the end zone for the Dragon’s first TD of the game.

After a field goal and another TD run immediately following a Mason Holmes fumble, Tulsa had created a commanding 23-7 lead at halftime.

Down, but not out, Wasson’s boys strung together four straight scoring drives in the second half.

Holmes, in his first varsity start, had an impressive performance throwing 26-39 (67%) for 336 yards and two touchdowns. Senior running back Shemar Coleman showed his versatility running for a touchdown and catching another before taking a pitch from the wildcat formation for his third touchdown of the game. The gutsy call and run play gave the Dragons their first lead of the night, 27-23 with 6:43 left in the game.

Led by junior defenders Robert Barnes, John Miscoll and Barrett Buck, the young Dragon defense stood tall in the second half giving up just one score. The trio accounted for 35 tackles and 10 passes defended.

Held in check for a majority of the game averaging 3.7 yards on 24 carries, Lil’ Jordan Humphrey came up big capping a late fourth quarter drive with the game winning run. Humphrey also caught 5 balls for 89 yards.

Wasson challenged his team and they came through in another exciting late game win over a well-coached Redskins squad.

Carroll next matchup will be on Friday September 11, at 7 p.m. when they host Midland Lee at DragonStadium.
