HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR PROFESSION?
I played high-level sports here in North Texas and eventually needed orthopedic surgeries because of injuries I sustained. I felt a large debt of gratitude toward the doctors who put me back together, so I thought it would be rewarding to be able to do the same to others.
DOES YOUR PRACTICE GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY?
Our practice gives team coverage to five local high schools and, during football season, we provide a free Friday night clinic to athletes from any area school. Personally, I am an instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, where I help teach surgeons from around the world techniques to help their patients back home.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE RECOGNIZED BY YOUR NORTH TEXAS PEERS AS A TOP DOC?
It is an honor to be recognized by my peers as one of the top orthopedic surgeons in North Texas. I strive daily to provide excellent care, and it is very rewarding to have that effort acknowledged by my fellow physicians.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH PATIENTS?
I particularly enjoy working with my shoulder patients, because shoulder injuries are present from youth athletics to the elderly, from laborers to executives, and they all have different expectations. I enjoy customizing the treatment to meet the individual patient’s needs.
O. David Taunton Jr., MD
WHAT IS YOUR HEALTHCARE PASSION AND HOW DID YOU COME TO REALIZE IT?
My passion is to help people improve their quality of life. My particular subspecialty, hip and knee replacement, has taken a lot of hard work, but it is all worth it when patients say, “Thank you for giving me my life back.”
WHAT IS THE BEST PROFESSIONAL ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
My father is a physician, and his advice when I started my profession was to do quality work. In addition to quality care, he advised me to not lose sight that patients are human beings and each should be given the respect and compassion they deserve.
