Apex Arts League will present The One O'Clock Lab Band in concert on Saturday, January 28th, 7:00 p.m., at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 South White’s Chapel Boulevard, Southlake. The Grammy-nominated jazz ensemble from the internationally acclaimed University of North Texas’ jazz studies program will take the stage at 8 p.m. Plano East High School and Carroll Senior High’s top Jazz Ensembles will open the concert at 7 with World-Premiere performances of two new pieces by Grammy- nominated composer and director of the One O’Clock, Steve Wiest.
The One O'Clock Lab Band has performed locally and internationally over the years, including concerts in Russia, Mexico, England, Ireland, Australia, Portugal, Finland, Norway, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, Poland, and Thailand, where the band performed for the King of Thailand. Most recently the band has toured the major jazz festivals in Europe including Montreux, Vienne, North Sea, and Umbria. The One O'Clock Lab Band frequently appears as the headliner at jazz festivals, major music conferences, and concerts hosted by numerous fine arts series, colleges and high schools across the United States, Canada and around the world.
The band's albums have received an unprecedented six Grammy nominations over the years, including two nominations in 2009 for best large jazz ensemble and best instrumental composition for Wiest's “Ice-Nine.”
Suggested donations at the door are $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and Apex members.
Southlake-based Apex Arts League sponsors a variety of performing and visual arts programs in the local area.
