Emma Scheffler committs to St. Edward's University for soccer.

When Carroll Senior High School senior Emma Scheffler isn't busy defending the Lady Dragons soccer first place District 4-5A standings, she's assisting the community.
Emma, who recently was one of 13 student athletes to sign a scholarship during National Signing Day, was recognized as one of ten Distinguished Finalists for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
The Carroll senior founded "Insulin Angels" in 2009, after developing Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Consequently, Emma created an organization to help other newly-diagnosed children cope with their diagnosis.
Recently, Emma trained eight other young diabetics to server as 'angels,' created a logo, packaged gift bags and established an awareness brochure to distribute to diabetic patients at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the nation's largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. All public and private level high schools in the country were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
For Emma's heartfelt community efforts, she will receive an engraved bronze medallion.
