Does your little girl have a knack for the dramatics? Dallas Summer Musicals is looking for local young girls to perform in their upcoming Tony Award-nominated musical, Waitress.
Waitress follows Jenna, an expert pie-baker who finds herself stuck in a loveless marriage. But she finds her drive while preparing for a local baking competition and, of course, in her daughter Lulu, who the audience finally meets in the production’s final scene. The musical is inspired by Adrienne Shelley’s 2007 blockbuster movie, which starred big names like Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion.
The production team is on the hunt for a young actress to perform the role of Lulu during the musicals tours in Dallas and Fort Worth. The show will first appear at the Music Hall at Fair Park March 28 - April 8 and will pick up in Fort Worth at Bass Performance Hall June 19 - 24.
The “Search for Lulu” will be held in Dallas on Tuesday, February 20, at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Audition times run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. During each audition, the child will be asked to recite a line from the show to get a feel for her personality. Because of the excitement around this event, parents and children should expect to be on location for approximately two hours. Also, parents should also bring a current headshot and resume for each child, if accessible. But don't panic if your child doesn't have one on file – no prior acting experience is required.
Qualified candidates should be under 4'2 and be no older than 5 years and 3 months. Individual applicants are welcome to come out as well as sets of twins or siblings. Space is limited to the first 70 applicants who sign up, so make sure you get your child's name in quick.
Four Lulus will be cast to share the role – two for Dallas and two for Fort Worth. Each actress chosen will perform in four performances per week. So this means eight performances in Dallas, for their two-week run, and four in Fort Worth, for their one-week run.
This could be your child's big break into the acting scene. For more information and to register for an audition, visit Dallas Summer Musicals' website.
