On Friday, November 8, Amazon hosted around 25 GCISD Technology Education and Career Center (TECC) middle schoolers at the Amazon Robotics Fulfillment Center in Coppell in celebration of National STEM Day. The tour gave students the opportunity to get a look at the one million square-foot robotics fulfillment center and learn about how humans and robots work together.
"At Amazon, we aim to inspire students to become the next generation of innovators, and we enjoy giving students the opportunity to learn and get excited about computer science and see robotics in action," Dusty Sullenger, Amazon assistant general manager says via press release. "We are proud to be a member of the Coppell community and support TECC’s efforts to give students access to hands-on computer science activities."
This tour was part of the Amazon Future Engineer program, a childhood to career initiative to ensure children and young adults from underserved and underappreciated communities have access to computer science education. TECC, which also received an Amazon Future Engineer Robotics Grant for $10,000 to fund their FIRST robotics program registrations to start a robotics club, is one of the 100 schools across the country that’s a part of this program.
