Next on the program is ballerina Yulia Ilina in the famous Dying Swan solo by Mikhail Fokine.brThis solo showcases Ms. Ilina’s incredible lines as well as her expressive and transfixing stage presence. Ms Ilina joins Avant Chamber Ballet for her second season and previously was a principal dancer at the renowned Eifman Ballet in Russia.
Closing the first act is Katie Puder's light and classic Italian Suite with music by Igor Stravinsky.brOriginally composed as a full-length ballet with voice, Pulcinella, for the Diaghilev’s BalletbrRusse, the music has gone through many variations by the composer to arrive at the popular and recognizable melodies for piano and violin that you will hear in this production. It was inspired by the music of early eighteenth-century commedia dell’arte, but Stravinsky rewrote this older music in a more modern way by borrowing specific themes and textures and interjecting modern rhythms, cadences and harmonies. Italian Suite was premiered in October 2012 and isbrbeing restaged with a larger cast plus updated and new costumes.br
The evening closes with the new Exactly Woven by director Katie Puder set to Shostakovich’sbrmemorable Piano Trio for piano, cello and violin showcasing the full company of dancers. This was premiered September 2013.
Tickets can be purchased online or are available at the door the night of the performance. Programming and casting for all productions are subject to change without notice.
