Big things are being built over at BILT Intelligent Instructions in Grapevine. Founded in 2015 by chairman and CEO Nate Henderson, BILT Intelligent Instructions is a startup company that generates 3D assembly instructions for nearly any product in the market, from trampolines and go-karts to tables and grills. Nate says it’s the company’s goal to make the assembly experience easier and more efficient for its customers.
“Our purpose is to make everybody experts at what they do,” Nate says. “Whether you’re assembling or professionally installing something, we want you to not just be good at it — we want you to become great at it.”
Nate says the idea started seven years ago when one of his friends bought some Ikea furniture with his wife. After hours of confusion and frustration over his failed assembly, Nate’s friend threw away the instructions and asked: “Can’t we create something better than paper instructions?”
That was where they got the idea to generate 3D instructions through a mobile app, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android. Nate says the company has grown so much over the past several years that its app is now used in 172 countries across the globe.
“On this Christmas eve alone, there will be nearly a quarter-million people in the United States that will use BILT between 10 p.m. on the 24th and 2 a.m. in the morning,” Nate claims.
BILT Intelligent Instructions held the grand opening for its global brand support center on Thursday evening with the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce. An Arizona transplant himself, Nate says the company chose to open their support center in Grapevine because of the potential for growth.
“Over the next three to four years, we will need to go from having 75 employees to nearly 2,000 employees,” Nate explains. “We wanted a place that had a great airport, a great tax situation and lots of local talent.”
