When it comes to building the foundations of your health, few things are as important as taking those first steps into the gym and putting in the effort. The Foundry Gym helps you to do just that.
Recently opening on Southlake Boulevard, the Foundry Gym focuses on mobility and recovery for your workout. The gym introduces a new concept called SOFLETE, or Special Operations Forces athlete, which takes out the gymnastic aspects of CrossFit and focuses solely on the functional applications that you can apply to everyday life.
“We’re very keen on mobility, stability and recovery,” general manager Luke Halterman says. “We break down basic exercises and turn them into complex movements that will benefit you throughout the rest of your day. When was the last time you were walking on your hands? It makes no sense to walk on your hands and possibly injure yourself when we could just break it down into a basic movement with weights or bodyweight.”
But the gym doesn’t just focus on SOFTLETE training — it also has Spartan group exercises that train participants through an intensive obstacle course, personal training and nutritional counseling through its partner app and high-quality recovery programs such as CryoFusion and NormaTec compression that helps with post-inflammation and speeds up recovery time.
And the gym is mindful of implementing health precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to sanitizing and deep-cleaning equipment after each use, its workout equipment is stationed 6 feet apart to maintain social distance, with instructors wearing neck gators as well.
“The idea is to develop a sense of community,” Luke says. “A lot of people are intimidated by CrossFit gyms, and rightfully so. A lot of places are very ‘You’ve gotta do this, you’ve gotta do that, you gotta look like me,’ and that’s just not what we bring at this gym. We want to relate to anybody, whether they are new or a seasoned veteran. We don’t try to scare off anybody who isn’t at a certain level of fitness."
