Area residents can create lasting memories with a child, niece, nephew or grandchild at the city of Southlake's Annual Sweetheart Dance. This is not just a daddy-daughter Valentine’s Day dance, the whole family is invited to join us for a night full of dancing, desserts and fun surprises.
In its 15th year, this year's dance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Southlake Town Hall Lobby from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There have been various improvements to the event over the past five years according to communications and marketing manager Jenni McClure. In 2011, the dance moved from a school cafeteria to its current location.
"The new venue is not only beautiful but it really adds more class to the event and is larger which allows us to accommodate more families," McClure said. "We have also added limo rides around Town Square during the event which is a highlight for the participants. We are also looking forward to moving into The Marq Southlake next year and all the new additions that will bring to the event."
Each year, there is a new, exciting theme. This year's theme is “Abrakadabra-alla-aka-zoo” where guests will enjoy a night of surprises.
There will be a live DJ, games for the kids to play, on-site photo flipbooks and tons of tasty treats, including cookies, cakes, brownies and other sweets, along with fruit for refreshments to go with our special recipe Sweetheart Dance Punch. There will be a special candy bar, where the young ones will be able to decorate a take-home box and fill it with all of their favorite candies.
"Each year we try to think of a new and creative theme for the event, something to make it more than just a Valentine's Day dance," McClure said. "This year we went with a magic theme because it was new and sounded like a fun theme to build on. There will be a magician at the event to provide magic tricks throughout the evening."
McClure said the hope is for the Sweetheart Dance to become a regular tradition and something the children attending now will pass on to their children in the future.
She continued saying the parks and recreation department wants to see families come in and have a good time.
"We want them to enjoy the event and it is great to see everyone let loose and have a great evening," she said. "Positive feedback on the comment cards is always nice too."
