Scheduled for Scheduled for April 27-29 at Southlake Town Square, this year’s Art in the Square festival organizers have announced the featured artist of the year is painter and printmaker, Stephen Sebastian, of High Point, North Carolina. This nationally recognized painter and printmaker works with a variety of mediums including painting; experimenting with new materials and tools to keep his artwork fresh and interesting. His art, prints and posters have received more than 200 national and regional awards.
Consistently ranking in the top 100 fine art festivals in the country, Art in the Square was recently rated as the number 8 festival by the Art Fair Sourcebook, a two decade old national publication and guide to the Best Juried Art & Craft Fairs in the United States. Publishing to art lovers, buyers, exhibiting artists and art show organizers, this elite status is the highest rating in twelve years for Art in the Square and is an honor for Southlake Women’s Club.
This three-day juried art festival is free to the public and features over 140 renowned artists from around the country who offer a wide variety of artistic mediums to festival attendees. Fun for the entire family, there are plenty of children's activities to enjoy along with a sampling of food and beverages. Proceeds from this annual event provide funding for deserving Northeast Tarrant County charities that serve women, children, and families.
The Art in the Square entertainment schedule has also been announced and will include headliner Chris Cagle on the Main Stage Saturday evening, 8:30 – 10:30 pm. Known for his “redneck rock ‘n roll,” Cagle has been firing people up for over a decade with his two gold albums, two #1 albums, and 12 charted songs. From 2000 – 2008, Cagle released an almost nonstop catalog of hits that resulted in a scorching hot career. Mellowing in his personal life, his forthcoming album is, in more ways than one, a new lease on life. Under the working title, “Back In The Saddle,” his rock-infused country roots are ever-present and showcase what he does best – relatable, back-roads and familiar country music worth getting excited about.
Other entertainers include Dallas-based TOP, a sensational group of musicians who perform anything from jazz, disco, and Motown hits to today's hit music. TOP will be featured on stage Friday evening, 8:30 – 10:30 pm. The Zac King Band takes the state Saturday (5:30 – 7:30) and Casey Weston will appear Sunday afternoon (3:30 – 5:30). Don't miss story time on the Gazebo Stage when SMU students present “Peter and the Wolf” on Saturday afternoon. From Dawson Middle School, Mr. Allison and his animals will perform Sunday afternoon at 12:30 pm.
